| Just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself, I'm Lady V from Lady V Designs. I am a multidisciplinary artist creating organic influenced abstract, contemporary landscape, expressionistic surrealistic portraits, photography, assemblage, jewellery and handmade art cards. I sell my jewellery exclusively at Art of Adornment and most of my jewellery is limited edition or one-of-a-kind accessories made from rare, unusual and exquisite components. Art of Adornment carries unique pieces from independent artist that are historically-inspired, focusing on vintage Victorian, romantic Renaissance, daring 1920's, Steampunk and dark modern Gothic styles. This is one of me newest creations... One of a kind. Layers of flowing antique bronze floral and Art Nouveau motif stampings create a stunning contrast with the charmlike brass watch cogs and matte black glass bicone beads which dangle from them. A hand-poured resin teardrop shaped cabochon containing more vintage watch parts acts as a focal point in the center. A 1 inch (2.5cm) antique brass locking bar pin is mounted on the back. | If your local Target still has some Halloween stock left, you can grab a pair of these pleather Darth Vader gauntlets for $0.79 (originally $7.99). I think they'd make nice driving/aviator gloves. | |

| Sometimes, you just have some lousy times all strung together at once, and it sucks. Friends fall out, your employees--all of them, at different moments--fail you, your rolls suck, and your Hobbit looks like she's wearing a diaper. (Speaking of which, I should do a picture post soon, I haven't done one in AGES and my little kiddos are growing up so fast.) But I critted an earring tonight, so I've got that going for me. And my next paycheck is going to be wildly inflated by the exorbitant amounts of overtime I've worked lately (to be fair, not as much as many people, though to also be fair, I signed on for 40 hours a week, I do fine with the checks from 40 hours a week, and I don't want the overtime, dammit). Also, this, which made me laugh really, really hard and will probably be going in my soon-to-be-redone info along with Jeff's old quote about how cool I am. And Amanda and Tim will be here tomorrow, which should be nice. So, on the whole, all right. Not good yet, but all right. ETA: Oh, and how could I forget, my old friend Bailey's is back in my fridge. Yes, I know. I should not count alcohol possession as a win, but... I am. So there. | |

| I'd gotten this image from the photo salon at SteamCon: They offered a choice of color or sepia tone, but didn't have the capability of showing you what the image would look like in sepia. I opted for the color version and decided I'd play with it myself later. ( Here's what I did )But that wasn't what I really wanted. I wanted what looked like an old daguerrotype. Luckily I have a friend with mad Photoshop skills. I forwarded her the image, and this is what she came up with: ( Read more... )She's got examples of the kinds of work she can do posted to her journal here. | |

| I've got like 30 Twitter entries to tag, but I just don't care. ^_^ We had class registration a few weeks ago, and it's official--I got EVERYTHING I WANTED!! Here's what I'm taking next semester: - Legal Profession/Professional Responsibility - Constitutional Law - Trademark Law and Prosecution - Patent Law - Space Law I'm so excited that I got everything I wanted. :D Here are my Halloween pictures. I finished Dr. Girlfriend and wore it on Thursday to the law school party. I'm going to have to put it on again soon for a picture, though, because the one of me by myself is horrible. Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out, but I ripped the side seams and have really limited mobility, so I'm going to have to do some heavy alterations before it's con-ready. The hat is my favorite part--it's made from fabric, craft foam, and a microwaveable soup can lid. I love the buttons too--it's amazing how it came together after adding the buttons. And I'm pretty sure I'm getting a wig for the final version; my bangs would NOT swoop over like they were supposed to, and with a wig I can sew the hat on and not worry about it falling off. (It kept falling back...) The zombie costume is from when Julie and I did the Knoxville Thrill the World event. (Video here.) It was awesome, and I had a blast getting all gross and zombified. On Halloween proper, I wore the Knuckledragger Dress. Julie has pictures of that, so I'll probably steal them and throw them in the Flickr album once she gets them uploaded. Joe wore his DHARMA suit on Thursday and was a HIT with the law students, and then he wore his BSG BDUs on Saturday to Temple. I think one guy recognized him, but nobody recognized me as a "sexy Deckhand." That's okay though--I wasn't expecting anyone to, I just wanted to wear that costume again. The tape was glowing on the dance floor, which was pretty awesome. Julie, Joe, and I saw Rose at Temple, who was an awesome (and perfect!) Barbarella, and overall we had a blast. I had a good Halloween this year. ^_^ | |

| I'll be vending this event. Additionally, the model (Glam Amour) will be wearing a couple items of my making and one of the performers (Zamra) will be wearing an entire outfit designed by myself and my wonderful partner Luscious Eve. | |

| Originally published at aepage.net. You can comment here or there. I love, love my job. Being a teacher is the best job on EARTH and I feel sorry for the people who aren’t teachers. However, there is one thing that I absolutely hate about being a teacher – everyone thinks that they can be a teacher. Right now, with the bad economy, I get emails from friends who want to know how to get into teaching now that their primary career has fallen through.
I sort of want to challenge them to a duel – pistols at dawn and to the death, for such an insult!
Teaching isn’t the sort of job that you just decide to do one day. Every single teacher I know, had some sort of moment where they decided, “Heck yes, I want to be a teacher.” For me, it was being in Bill Casey’s World History class in tenth grade and learning about ancient Greece. I decided at fifteen that I was going to teach tenth grade World History and no one would stop me.
If I could, I would love to beat up people who say, “those who can’t do, teach.” Uhh. Not so much. I wake up every day at 4:30 in the morning, drive an hour and arrive at school to begin meeting with students for tutoring at 6:30 in the morning. I stay after school until 4:30, sometimes even later, to get my work done. Then, I drive an hour, only to go home and do more work – call parents, make lesson plans, update my classroom website, tutor students over instant messenger, reply to emails. It’s not the sort of job that you can set down when the bell rings – if you can do that, you’re doing it horribly wrong. Teaching requires patience, responsibility AND being a little crazy.
Not to mention, that as a teacher, I am under constant scrutiny by my students, parents and the community. Log on to any news site and if you search “teacher, facebook” there are dozens of articles about a teacher getting fired for photos of them drinking or even simply having a public Facebook. As a teacher, you have to always be responsible and above reproach, no matter what. One slip up can cost a teacher their entire livelihood, create a national scandal and ruin their lives. I can think of very, very few professions that require such strict guidelines.
All of this sounds like a downer, but really, I like knowing that I am the sort of woman that my students can look up to, who is of good character, responsible and trustworthy. Rocket scientists and rock stars are quite glamorous, but they don’t get the privilege of seeing the next generation grow into fantastic adults.
So the next time you even think to say, “those who can’t do, teach!” Remember, I’ll find you and duel you with pistols at dawn.

| I discovered Steampunk fairly recently, but it feels like something I've been looking for for a long time. I just wanted to post my Halloween pics (since that's is one of my favorite parts of this blog; all the pictures of peoples outfits). There are just two, and I blocked my face ONLY because I am not photogenic, and they were just...bad. ( Pics ) | |

| Arg. I think I've read those stupid math books one too many times, can feel my brain shut down. Tests are tomorrow, I can't concentrate on studying any more, and my rp urge is ... just not there right now.
I know Merlin owes a couple of tags, which hopefully I can get to this weekend, once I'm not flailing about zomg!school stuff.
It's a blah day. | |
